The time has come and this Fun Friday is all about confessions…I can’t hide it any longer so here it is…I am a Twilight junkie! It all began last summer when my oldest wanted to read the book. I did a little research and it appeared to pass our usual ‘inspection’ so we bought it. Within a week he finished it and mentioned to his sister that she should read it next. Now my interest was piqued so I picked it up to browse a few pages and about 6 days later we owned all 4 books and I’d devoured them all.

I’ve never been a huge vampire fan although the Cullen’s changed my view of these ‘cold ones’. Stephenie has a great talent for making the characters come to life and you love them from beginning to end. It’s a huge phenomenon that is made up of 11 year old girls to 50 year old women that all dream of having a sparkly overprotective vampire to love.
I have another confession…it’s the Edward in the books I truly have a ‘thing’ for (yes my husband is aware and we’re ok-He’s Team Alice so it’s all good). The Edward as portrayed by Rob in the movie definitely falls short of the Edward of my dreams, although with that being said I also admit I’ve seen the movie (or parts of it) at least 10 times. The whole fam went to the theater once and then I was in the mob of fans at Target when the DVD was released. We watched it several times the first weekend we owned it and to my surprise it really grew on me. The pathetic special effects and the ridiculous look of constipation on poor Jasper’s face became much more endearing after numerous viewings.

What an amazing journey for Stephenie Meyer. I’ve read her story and I think everyone who writes secretly dreams of our characters being known and loved by all…like we love them when we create them in our minds. I’ve read articles that talk about what a terrible writer she is and I have to laugh…if being on the #1 top seller list for this long and having the insane following she has is caused by poor writing skills then I pray I’m as awful as she is!
What I do know and appreciate is that she knows her audience. I felt very comfortable with my children reading the series. I appreciate the fact she leaves a lot to the imagination when it comes to love and sex which is exactly (in my opinion) how it should be in the young adult genre. If an adult chooses to read these books then some of those scenes may look completely different in their minds due to experience. I believe that makes the books more appealing to a wider audience and I applaud her for her choices.
Whether you’ve experienced the insanity of Edward and Bella or not, I doubt there is a soul on earth who hasn’t heard of ‘Twilight’…we’re counting down to the release of ‘New Moon’ so if you live in the area…see ya in line 11/20/09!

I agree…and it’s so nice to meet a fellow “Twerd” (Twilight nerd). I have to admit to preferring the wolf pack to the “cold ones,” even though Emmett cracks me up. I hope they do better with the next installments of the film series!
In the books I’m a fan of the cold ones…however in the next movie Jacob is looking pretty good! LOL
see, i’m told that the characters are amazing, but it’s the plot that sucks, which is why i’m tentative to read the books and ruin the movies for me, since i actually kind of enjoyed the first one (more than i thought i would, anyways) and am kinda sorta looking forward to the second one. as a rule, i hate books turned into movies.
anyways… no, wait, that’s all i got
Books made into movies are usually a disappointment…but it is fun to see what the characters look like and do outside of your own mind…LOL
I finally broke down and started reading the books. I’ve read 1, 2 and 4 so far. Yup, I missed 3. Waiting for the library to get a copy in because if I buy it in hardback my husband will disown me. He already feels betrayed that I’d go the shiny vampire route since he’s a blood and gore vampire guy. Oh well, he’ll survive. I wrote a blog post about it myself a little while back. I thought his head would start spinning around when he saw it…
)
Now my husband is a huge fan…kinda disturbing…LOL
I read your post and it made me laugh. That’s why I waited a little bit before my ‘confession’
I liked the movie, haven’t read the books yet but would like to. I was a fan of Forever Knight, a vampire series that was on in early 90′s and was intrigued by the vampire who wanted to become human again. LOL speaking of which we are watching it from beginning to end.
Vampires are certainly popular again…enjoy your movie!
funny, I just watched it again last night!!!
