Fun Friday…Action

by BridgetChumbley on November 27, 2009

I realized last weekend that I’m too old to only get a few hours of sleep and still be expected to function. I think I can sum up the insanity in three words, lights… camera… action!

Last Thursday, I knew that I’d be getting up by 4 (yes… in the morning) to go see New Moon with the fam. I decided to be smart and get myself to bed early, so I’d get a decent amount of sleep.

At 9:30 I headed up the stairs, did the last of the bedtime routine, and climbed into bed… then I stared at the ceiling with my body saying… “do you know what time it is?” Due to the fact I’m usually in need of extra sleep, it didn’t take too long for my body to give in… (are sparkly vampires and pre-pubescent werewolves worth it? Hmmm…)

Then I woke up expecting the alarm to go off… and it was 11:30, then it was 12:15…2:00, and at 2:30 I decided to grab my phone and check messages. There were a few I wanted to answer so I went down to the office. Then I went back up to bed and tossed and turned until I decided to just get ready.

The rest of the family woke shortly after I got up, and we headed out to the theater, arriving right at 5. We found a place in line (in the dark)… way behind the crazy teen girls who showed up at 3:15. Three of the local news stations were there filming and interviewing people… there was no shortage of excitement (or rain) all around!

The movie was being hosted by The Buzz radio station in Portland, and they were broadcasting live from the theater. It was fun to see them (in person) and they had some great prizes to give out… my daughter ended up winning a necklace that Alice (Ashley Greene) wore in the New Moon movie. She was pretty excited about that part… oh and seeing ‘Jacob’ with his shirt off for the majority of the movie. (I realize I must refrain from commenting, he’s not even 18… but, yikes!)

For those who can’t wait… here is the official countdown clock for ‘Eclipse’…

After the movie, we dropped the kids off at school and got busy with our typical Friday business. By that evening my body was starting to ‘feel’ that it had been awake since the crack of dawn (love that saying… it makes me laugh), and hadn’t had much sleep. I thought about how wonderful it would be to snuggle up on the couch and take a nap, but we had a wedding to go to at 7:30.

The drive would have normally taken about 30 minutes, but on this particular evening, the directions Google gave us were incorrect (there was a street by the same name, John Adams/John Q Adams) a few blocks away. We missed a lot of the ceremony (as did many others), though we did see the kiss, so all was good. After a couple hours and a glass of ‘adult’ punch the mother of the groom insisted I try (she twisted my arm), I was basically comatose on the drive home.

Well, you’d think that after being up for almost 24 hours, I’d sleep really well and Saturday would be a breeze… um, ya right! I slept, but it wasn’t long enough, and I woke up dragging from the second my eyes attempted to open for the day.

Saturday evening we had some friends over for dinner, then we loaded up (and bundled up) and headed over to our favorite food-cart to watch Food Network film a segment for the show Unwrapped. If you haven’t had a chance to try a Whiffies fried pie, you’re really missing out! The show planned to start taping by 10, so we got there a little after 9:30.

When we arrived, a large crowd had already formed, and they were all huddled together under the awning set up for shelter from the crazy weather Portland has to offer. We made our way into the group and eventually got in the really long line that was waiting to order pie. While in line, we watched the excitement as the cameraman and producer filmed all the action… both outside and inside the cart.

As we stood around socializing, laughing, and waiting for our delicious (and warm) pie, my good friend Nick and I were approached, and asked if we’d agree to be filmed for the show. This is so out of my comfort level, but I agreed… and in six months you’ll all be able to share in this embarrassing moment by watching Unwrapped (if I’m not thrown out in the editing process).

It was quite the adventure (nothing like hundreds of eyes starting at you while you try to answer questions and act ‘natural’). I’m sure the part they’ll keep is when the pie oozed out of my mouth after they asked me to take a bite for the camera.

I blame the fact I was giddy from lack of sleep for anything I may have said or done to make myself look crazier (or dorkier) than usual.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I could really use a nap!

I told my husband that I new I had gotten old when the promise of a nap in the afternoon would actually perk me up in the morning.

Won’t really comment on the whole Twilight thing except to say “God bless” and I don’t get it (not that I have to). The Unwrapped thing sounds so cool! Be sure to remind us when we get close and I’ll be watching. :)

I would probably stay up all night to get a fried pie, but not for a vampire movie (even though I’ve never had a fried pie…) So excited that you’re going to be a Food Network rock star!

Will never figure out how you were able to sleep so little. Wow, I’m impressed!

When I figure out how to send those fried pies so that they arrive ‘edible’… you are on the list!

lol, oh, bridget, if we see anything zany, kooky, or downright dorky from you on that episode of unwrapped, it will not be the lack of sleep talking, that’s for sure… ; )

now, my cute movie guy story ends a bit differently than yours, but i still like sharing it :) i went to see CON: Prince Caspian with a group of teenage girls (girls’ night out when i was in americorps), and the whooooole movie, we were all commenting (yes, even me…) about how cute prince caspian was. when susan and he kissed in the end, that did it. all the girls swooned horribly. i will admit that even i was a little jealous. as we left the theater, the girls i was with kept rubbing in that i was too old for him. it was truly tragic…

a few days later, my roommate and i watched another movie, and one of the main characters looked very familiar, so we looked it up (imdb is one of my favorite websites sometimes). anyways, it was the same guy who played caspian. just before i closed the website, i happened to notice when he was born. Caspian’s two years OLDER than i am–perfect.

needless to say, i got about three months of tormenting the girls after that one.

Having experienced your “brush with Hollywood” I have to say I hope that the entire segment makes it into the final cut!
