I know most of you have at least heard of the movie, “Back to the Future”. It was released in 1985 (I graduated in ‘86), and my big claim to fame is that several of the scenes were filmed at my High School! (oops, I guess that makes it pretty easy to figure out how *ahem* young I am)
Here are some of my fave lines:
Hello? Hello? Anybody home? Huh? Think, McFly. Think! I gotta have time to get ‘em retyped. Do you realize what would happen if I hand in my reports in your handwriting? I’ll get fired. You wouldn’t want that to happen, would ya? Would ya?
This is it! This is the answer. It says here… that a bolt of lightning is going to strike the clock tower at precisely 10:04pm, next Saturday night! If… If we could somehow… *harness* this lightning… *channel* it… into the flux capacitor… it just might work. Next Saturday night, we’re sending you back to the future!
I’m sure that in 1985 plutonium is available in every corner drugstore, but in 1955 it’s a little hard to come by.
Well, that is your name, isn’t it? Calvin Klein? It’s written all over your underwear.
The pics I’ve included are right out of my yearbook…
It was pretty exciting to watch the transformation take place in our halls, and seeing the old cars parked all over the grass. Our Principal, Mrs. Lawrence, had a brief appearance in the movie, and she got to meet all of the stars.
There is a note in the yearbook that says one night she walked into the faculty lounge where Michael J. Fox was sleeping, and like a caring mother, covered him with a blanket.
Her daughter, Kim Lawrence, was the artist who wrote “KICK ME” on the sign that Christopher Lloyd used in the film.
I love to watch B.T.T.F. and see the old hallways I walked down for years… and the gym where we had P.E and school dances. (I’ve tried to forget both of those emotionally scarring activities)
If someone is lucky enough to watch the movie with me… they get to hear ALL the details… and I point out Mrs. Lawrence as her face flashes on the screen.
The following movie trailer shows a few shots of my HS, as well as the Puente Hills Mall where I loved to shop. One night after going to a movie, we happened to drive by while they were shooting some of the parking lot scenes with the DeLorean… it was pretty cool!
I came across this site that shows where several of the Back to the Future scenes were filmed. You can see some pics (on all 3 pages) of Whittier High and the transformation they performed so we could go… ‘back in time’.
The only thing missing from these photos is me standing in the Quad… in my pegged jeans, pumps, and big hair! (Be thankful!)

That is TOTALLY cool……Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies of all time. That must have been wild to have been able to watch all the behind the scene action…..and then watching it all completed. I would love to have the “play by play” lowdown watching it with you….let’s pencil it in our calendar for some day, OK?
I also love watching Michael J Fox…he is an amazing and inspiring person.
I’d love to make it a ‘date’… that would be awesome!
I agree, Michael J. Fox is a great inspiration, I’ve always enjoyed him.

I’m finally getting to read this! You definitely need to add some of those pictures of you- you know, for research purposes…
